What You Need to Know About Pole Barns and How to Install Solar Panels

A pole barn with solar panels can provide for it's own electrical needs.

Unsustainable living is no longer an option.

People have become increasingly concerned about the environment, energy-efficiency, and reducing their negative impact on the world. Many people now turn to a renewable energy source as a means of conscientiously providing their power needs.

One method used is solar power through having solar panels on a home or business's roofing system. People with pole barns use solar panels as a means to power their building in an environmentally friendly way.

Keep reading to learn more about what you need to know before installing solar energy panels on your building or pole barn.

1. CONSIDER THE LOCATION OF YOUR POLE BARN

If you live in cloudy, rainy areas, solar panels might not be the best for you. Take a look at the average number of sunny days per year for your area when assessing how successful solar panels would be for your pole barn. Then turn your attention to your specific property. Will your panels face South or East? Will they be on the ground? The more sunlight on your solar panels, the more electronics you will be able to power.

2. CONDITION OF YOUR POLE BARN'S ROOF

Next, consider the condition of your pole barn's roof. Has it recently been redone or completed for the first time? Have the supporting structures inspected to ensure you won't have any problems with your roof or the added weight of your solar panels.

3. LEARN ABOUT SOLAR PANELS ON BARN ROOF INSTALLATIONS

There is a lot to know about solar panels. Make sure to shop around to get the best price for your panels and their installation. Do your homework on the type of panels you want and need and the best installers in your area.

4. LEARN ABOUT YOUR CITY CODES AND ZONING REGULATIONS THAT MAY APPLY TO SOLAR PANELS

Before solar system panels can be installed on your structure, you'll need to take some things into consideration, including:

  • Does your city require a permit for installing solar panels?

  • How about a specific permit for attaching solar panels to your pole barn?

  • Are there zoning restrictions that you need to make sure to follow in order to generate electricity by installing solar panels?

  • Are there any tax incentives for solar power generation at your home or farm?

Follow up about these questions with a city official before you start your project. If you wait until after your installation, you could be fined or forced to remove your solar systems equipment or panels.

The Mansea Metal Difference

We Are The Manufacturer

Most of the companies who advertise metal roofing and siding or post-frame buildings are simply reselling products produced by someone else. We produce our own products from rolled steel and have large indoor yards that keep our lumber protected. That way, we control the quality and time of delivery to you. And that creates jobs right here in your home town.

Higher Quality Steel with Superior Finishes

The truth is not all steel is alike, especially when it comes to finishes. That’s why we use Sherwin-Williams WeatherXL™ Coil Coatings. Created to withstand most anything that comes its way, designed to maintain extreme resistance to abrasion, chipping and marring with tremendous color and gloss retention. And you get to select your favorites from more than 22 striking color options

You Won’t Be Shorted On Lumber

When we price a building package, we give you everything you need to ensure structural integrity. Like longer gable posts that extend to the top of the truss, not just tying in at the bottom. And long-lasting pressure-treated wood measuring .60 CCA. You won’t get this quality at a ‘big box’ store. Plus, we use 6x6’s along with 2x10’s and 2x12’s that are #1 grade.
